Questions fréquentes sur les aides sociales en Italie

  • What is the Assegno di Inclusione (ADI)?

The Assegno di Inclusione (ADI) replaced the Reddito di Cittadinanza in January 2024. It provides €500–€780/month for families with at least one disabled member, person over 60, or child under 18. The benefit is means-tested using ISEE.

ADI recipients must sign a social inclusion commitment (percorso personalizzato di inclusione sociale o lavorativa) with local social services. Apply through the INPS website, your local CAF (Centro di Assistenza Fiscale) or patronato. The benefit is paid on a dedicated prepaid card (Carta ADI).

  • How does NASpI unemployment benefit work in Italy?

NASpI provides unemployment benefit equal to 75% of your average monthly wage for the portion up to €1,352/month, plus 25% above that threshold, subject to an overall maximum of approximately €1,550. The benefit is reduced by 3% each month after the first 4 months.

You need at least 13 weeks of contributions in the 4 years before losing your job, plus 30 days of actual work in the 12 months before. Apply within 68 days of losing your job at the INPS online portal. The maximum duration equals half your contribution weeks in the last 4 years.

  • What is the Assegno Unico Universale?

The Assegno Unico Universale is a universal monthly child benefit of €54–€189 per child per month, from the 7th month of pregnancy until age 21 (with ISEE conditions above 18). The amount depends on family ISEE — the lower the ISEE, the higher the benefit up to the maximum.

It is universal: all families with children can receive it regardless of work status (employed, self-employed, unemployed). Applications are made through the INPS portal. It replaced seven previous family support benefits in 2022.

  • How do I calculate my ISEE in Italy?

ISEE (Indicatore della Situazione Economica Equivalente) is Italy's measure of household economic capacity combining income, assets and family composition. It is calculated annually by submitting a DSU (Dichiarazione Sostitutiva Unica) to a CAF or patronato, or online via the INPS portal.

Most means-tested benefits in Italy (ADI, Assegno Unico, university fee waivers, etc.) use ISEE as the eligibility threshold. The DSU must be renewed each year — it reflects the household situation as of two years prior.
