Veelgestelde vragen over sociale uitkeringen in Nederland
-
What is WW unemployment benefit in the Netherlands?
The WW (Werkloosheidswet) is the Dutch contributory unemployment insurance administered by UWV. In 2026, you receive 75% of your previous daily wage for the first 2 months, then 70% for the remaining period. The maximum daily wage considered is €252/day. Maximum duration depends on employment history: up to 24 months for long careers.
You must have worked at least 26 of the last 36 weeks before unemployment. Register with UWV immediately after losing your job — delays can affect your benefit start date. EU citizens who have worked and contributed in the Netherlands are also entitled.

How to apply for housing benefit (Huurtoeslag) in Netherlands?
Huurtoeslag (rental allowance) is administered by the Dutch Tax Authority (Belastingdienst/Toeslagen). To qualify in 2026, your rent must be below €879.66/month (liberalization threshold), and your income must be below approximately €31,000 for a single person. The maximum allowance is around €400/month.
Apply online at mijntoeslagen.nl. You can also apply for Zorgtoeslag (health premium allowance) of about €150/month simultaneously. Benefits are calculated based on your tax return income and can be adjusted during the year if your situation changes.

What child benefits exist in the Netherlands?
The main child benefit is Kinderbijslag, a universal benefit (not means-tested) of €275 per child per quarter paid by SVB. Additionally, Kindgebonden Budget (means-tested) provides extra income-related child support of up to €3,480/year for low-income families.
Kinderopvangtoeslag covers up to 90% of childcare costs. All are administered via the Belastingdienst or SVB. Apply at svb.nl or toeslagen.nl. Kinderbijslag is granted automatically after birth registration — SVB sends a form to your home address.
