Frequently asked questions about Australian government benefits

  • How much is the Age Pension in Australia 2026?

The Age Pension in Australia is $1,116.30 per fortnight (every 2 weeks) for a single person and $840.40 per fortnight each for couples in 2026. To receive the maximum rate, you must be 67 years old or older, have lived in Australia for at least 10 years, and pass the income and assets tests.

The income test permits up to $204/fortnight in other income before the pension reduces. The assets test allows up to $295,500 in assets for a single homeowner (excluding the family home). Claim via myGov / Centrelink at servicesaustralia.gov.au.

  • What is JobSeeker payment?

JobSeeker Payment is Australia's main working-age income support for people who are between jobs, have an illness or injury, or are caring for a sick person. In 2026, the fortnightly rate is $762.70 for a single person (with no children). To receive the payment, you must be aged 22 to 66 years, an Australian resident, and meet an income test.

You must actively be looking for work and report your job search efforts fortnightly to Centrelink. Centrelink can waive the waiting period in emergencies. Apply via myGov at servicesaustralia.gov.au.

  • How to apply for NDIS?

The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) funds individualized support for Australians under 65 with permanent and significant disability. To apply, you must be under 65, an Australian citizen or permanent resident, and have a permanent disability that affects your ability to participate in daily activities.

Contact NDIA (National Disability Insurance Agency) at ndis.gov.au or call 1800 800 110. Once your access request is approved, an NDIS planner helps create your support plan with funding for therapy, equipment, accommodation and other disability supports. You can self-manage, use a plan manager, or have NDIA manage your funding.
